St Louis

St Louis
St Louis is the largest city in the state of Missouri. It was founded in 1764 and named for King Louis IX of France. It was part of the French Empire until the end of the French & Indian war when Spain took claim to the territory. They would sell it back to France in 1800 who would sell it to the United States in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In 1804, Lewis and Clar started their westward exploration here that took them to the Pacific Ocean and back. They arrived back at the end of their journey inj 1806. The Arch in the middle is a memorial to that exploration. In 1904, the Worlds Fair and Olympic Games were held here, the first time both came to the states.
